HS Pathway Program

HSP, a four-week high school prep program, is the first step in CEC's unique and valuable preparation program for each of its international students. HSP gives each CEC student a significant advantage and head start among international students coming into the American educational system. HSP includes three weeks of intense classroom instruction of English, SAT/ACT and study skills, and one week of cultural travel and university visit experiences.

 

Goals of HSP

1. Improved English Language

2. College Entrance Exam (SAT/ACT/TOEFL) Preparation

blob.png Study skills taught (organization, time management, tips for success, etc.)

 

3. Introduction to American Universities

blob.png Seminars on what universities expect and how to prepare for application

 

4. Cultural Acclimation

blob.png Visit famous sites (Hollywood & NBA L.A. Lakers in Los Angeles, Disneyland, CA, University Studio, Betty Museum, etc.)

5. Leadership and Life Skills

blob.png Introduction to Business Principles and Entrepreneurship

HSP Curriculum

HSP includes both Core English and English Elective classes. Core English classes include focus on reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Elective English classes continue to work on improving students’ English ability while focusing on life skills and test preparations.

 

Life Skills Class

Teaches and practices communication skills, critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, cultural awareness, proper use of technology, and leadership as well as an introduction to Western culture, American classroom practices, American family understanding, college preparation and worldviews. Students will also be taught basic Western etiquette, good financial stewardship principles, time management, and study skills. Life Skills is required for all first year students.

 

ACT/SAT/TOEFL Prep Classes

Students are given the opportunity to focus on preparing for important American college entrance examinations taught by experienced, professionally trained American teachers.

Housing

All students will stay in modern air-conditioned dormitories on campus. Each student will have a roommate. Dorms are equipped with shared bathrooms. Boys and girls will live in separate buildings and be divided by age groups. No student is allowed in the opposite gender’s building, hallway, or rooms at any time.

 

Who Attends

All students under 18 year old, placed in a CEC school are suggested to attend HSP and gain this enormous advantage. In addition to CEC students, any international student serious about improving their English and gaining the many other benefits HSP provides are welcome to apply.

 

Level Placement & Testing

Students will be placed in an appropriate HSP English level based on interview assessment and iTEP SLATE Plus. CEC is an approved test center of iTEP SLATE.

 

Logistics

blob.png Students will obtain either an F-1 visa if attending a CEC school or a B-2 visitor visa if they are attending HSP and then returning home (CEC will issue an invitation letter).

blob.png Students will travel to Los Angeles, California.

blob.png Parents are responsible for cost and arrangements for international flights to and from the U.S.

blob.png CEC will purchase and coordinate all travel domestically in the U.S. during HSP.

blob.png Students will live in modern, beautiful dormitories at the HSP host site.

blob.png Meals will be provided in the university cafeteria.

blob.png All supervisors are trained, positive role models considered among the best available in the U.S.
